2009 Alberg Rendezvous Picton, Ontario

Our 2009 GLAA summer event had the honour of hosting 25 amazing Alberg sailors along with 10 of the clubs (PEYC), members who joined in the fun.

Friday evening's GLAA “meet & greet” session was blended with the club’s weekly Friday “happy hour”, making a party of approximately 60 people.

Each Alberg Skipper received a "Loot Bag", which included a 2009 white t-shirt with the Rendezvous graphic on it, 2 bottles of water from the local bottled water company with the Rendezvous label, a County Map & Visitors Guide Booklet, copy of Breakaway County magazine and local grocery store flyer.

We had an Alberg 37 (Lady Godiva), stop by the yacht club for a visit, unaware that a Alberg Rendezvous was happening. The owners (Robert and Hilary McEwan of Stirling, Ont.), were non-members, but quickly became one! ...and are planning on joining us in Picton again next year. Gord Martin also told me (Cathie) that he is going to sail here next year with his AL37 beauty, Maggie Fields IV.

There were (5) AL30s, (2) AL22's, (1) AL29 and (1) AL37 (didn't race). Once again, Lloyd & Jean brought their beautiful boat Shiva, Alberg 30 hull #2 from BQYC. Two other AL30's stopped in at PEYC while cruising in the area but didn't stay for the Rendezvous (Kennan and Kitchener). At this point in time, it looks as if we may have 7 A30's, 3 A22's, 1 A29 and 2 A37's at the 2010 Rendezvous.

Everyone (including yours truly), participated in our annual fun Saturday Race. It was kicked off with a LeMans style start at the yacht club's bar. The winds were light going up Picton Bay to the cement plant and back to our finish... the Bar. Saturday and Sunday mornings treated us with pastries, coffee and tea to help start our days. Saturday evening's steak 'n chicken barbeque was very well supported by Alberg sailors, cruising visitors and club members (who also helped with the set up of the dinner).

On Sunday our pre-planned tour of the County Cider Company & Estate Winery in Waupoos for lunch and cider/wine samplings was rained out. Instead, the group lunched at the Funky Carp in town then headed out to the Fifth Town Artisan Cheese factory in Cressy for a guided tour and goat cheese sampling.

For all the great support from our Alberg brethren and PEYC members who helped make this year's Rendezvous such a great success, John and I wanted to show our appreciation by hosting Sunday evening's wrap up BBQ/party at our home. A good time was had by all (including some furry 4-legged Alberg sailors!!).

Monday was a travel day for most, however a few were somewhat reluctant to leave the tranquility of our beautiful little harbour and lingered a while longer.

The 2010 Eastern Lake Ontario Rendezvous will be held Friday July 31st to Monday August 3rd at the Prince Edward Yacht Club in Picton. Register Early! For more info and to register contact Cathie at and 613-471-2070, or Picton Pete at Stay tuned for updates on this fun weekend.
