Great Lakes Alberg Association 2009 Annual General Meeting

DATE: January 9th, 2010 (6:00pm)
LOCATION: The Keating Channel Pub & Grill (Toronto)

This year we moved up the AGM timetable by one week to previous years. And, we finally had a fair weather evening.

This year's attendance was the highest in many years. I lost count at 43. Fortunately the group at the Keating Channel Pub & Grill were able to handle our crowd with great efficiency and as more showed up, we just added tables. Our Alberg membership travelled from many places to share an evening of boat talk, coming together so soon after their Christmas and New Year's celebrations. Members and friends from Ottawa, Kingston, Picton, Belleville, Orangeville, Stoney Creek, Oakville, Embro and many other cool places in between.

Commodore Don welcomed the group as we sat down to enjoy a varied menu of dinners from the Keating Channel Pub & Grills daily selections. Then, the time came for our commodore of ten years (Don Campbell), to past the commodore torch to our newly selected 2010 commodore, Cathie Coultis.

Cathie got up (no photo available), and gave an enthusiastic summary of her vision for the GLAA leading up to the upcoming 50th anniversary of our Albergs in the year 2014. Cathie Coultis will do a monthly Commodores Corner, painting that vision a bit each time, starting with this month?s... a little bit about Cathie.

Then, the 2009 GLAA Awards were announced;

Syronelle - Phil Birkenheier Gemini
- Don Campbell White Opal
Great Lakes - Ralph Brown Ariel
Championship
Gordon Proctor - Bruno Frank & Elyse
Memorial - Pastor Lady Heron

The business side of the meeting carried forward with executive members Peter Kennan and Janski (Jan Grodzinski), who completed their terms on the executive team. Phil Birkenheier got up and thanked Don for the many years he spent as our GLAA Commodore and for Don?s sincere concerns and helpful attitude to everyone who is in our great Alberg family.

Dinner was followed by Gord Martin's photo tour in which he detailed the trip he took aboard Maggy Fields IV his AL37, from home port Etobicoke to North Carolina and back. A future news article.

All in all, this was a very successful evening. It was so great to see so many Alberg people out this Alberg evening.

Our future looks bright. Janet McNally
