ALBERG

29

ORIGINS and influences

In the late seventies when Nye Yachts introduced the Alberg 29, it was to satisfy the changing tastes and needs of the boating consumer. On the whole the AL29 design was more than a revamped Alberg 30, shorter over hangs(1) and more interior volume, it has a decidedly more modern look.

Nye Yachts sales literature describes the boat as being less tender than other Alberg designs, with firmer bilges, increased beam and more fullness aft. In addition, it's stated, that a deeper draft and wider keel lowering the centre of ballast by several inches along with a higher ballast - displacement ratio, add to the stability(2) of the Alberg 29. An indication of the true intent of this Alberg design maybe found in phrases like "comfort at sea", "heavy seas" and "sea going vessel" which are are found within the builders description.

Certainly the lead keel, keel stepped mast and the liberal use of custom bronze fittings would point to boat intended for the open ocean. The Alberg 29 is one of Carl Alberg's last designs and 80(3) of this full keel, seaworthy craft were built until Nye Yachts closed in 1986.
